Ayada has one of the finest house reefs in the Maldives — a 360-degree reef that encircles the entire island, accessible from shore at virtually any point. The coral has recovered remarkably from the 2015-17 bleaching event and is now described as among the healthiest in the country. Snorkelers encounter blacktip reef sharks, hawksbill and green sea turtles, eagle rays, dolphins, and dense schools of tropical reef fish. The remote Gaafu Dhaalu location means uncrowded underwater conditions and pristine visibility.

Getting There

Transfer from Malé

Ayada is in the remote Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll — the deep south of the Maldives. The transfer involves a 55-minute domestic flight from Velana International Airport to Kaadedhdhoo Airport, followed by a 45-minute speedboat ride. The journey is long but rewards you with one of the most uncrowded and pristine locations in the country. A minimum 5-night stay is recommended to justify the transfer.

Our Take

Who This Resort is For

Ideal for

  • Snorkeling enthusiasts — a 360-degree house reef ranked among the Maldives' finest, accessible from shore at any point with reef sharks, turtles, and eagle rays
  • Couples and honeymooners — White Chapel weddings, butler service, private beach dining, and a romantic overwater wine cellar
  • Spa and wellness seekers — the 3,500 sqm AySpa with the Maldives' only Turkish hammam, hydrotherapy, and ESPA products
  • Surfers — five surf breaks directly accessible from the resort, a rarity in the Maldives
  • Families — Zuzuu Kids Club (4-11), two-bedroom family suites on beach and overwater, and a shallow lagoon for children

Consider elsewhere if

  • Guests wanting a quick transfer — the 55-minute flight plus 45-minute speedboat is one of the longest transfers in the Maldives; minimum 5-night stay recommended
  • Ultra-boutique seekers — 122 villas is a mid-to-large resort; it can feel busy during peak season
  • Budget travellers — starting at $709/night (Garden Villa) is competitive for 5-star, but the remote location means transfers add significant cost
  • Gym enthusiasts — the indoor gym is small with poor ventilation; an outdoor jungle-style gym compensates but it is not comparable to dedicated fitness resorts
