South Ari Atoll is the main draw — year-round whale shark excursions and manta ray encounters are the headline experiences. The resort's PADI dive centre covers everything from intro dives to advanced courses across 30+ dive sites.

House Reef & Underwater

Athuruga's house reef is genuinely excellent — shore-accessible coral wrapping two-thirds of the island with regular sightings of blacktip sharks, turtles, eagle rays, and 100+ tropical species. Active coral conservation with the University of Milano-Bicocca supports reef health. The wider South Ari Atoll adds year-round whale sharks and seasonal mantas.

Transfer from Malé

Athuruga is in the South Ari Atoll — a scenic 25-minute seaplane ride from Velana International Airport. Trans Maldivian Airways operates the service during daylight hours.
