A Japanese-inspired specialty kitchen pairing teppanyaki theatre with a chef's-counter sushi bar. Globally sourced wagyu, fresh local catch, and organic produce drive the menu. The room is small — an octagonal thatched pavilion with the teppan grills running across the centre — so reservations are tight in peak season.

Grill

An overwater chargrill that fronts onto Vaavu Atoll's open ocean — visually the resort's most photographed dining room. Dry-aged meats, wahoo, lobster, and reef catch share the menu with the signature flambéed Flame cocktail. Sunset is the seat to book; lighting drops to lantern-only after dark.

Four meal-plan tiers from B&B to All-Inclusive — AI is the practical choice on a remote-atoll island. Iru handles every AI meal; Veli's pool-bar bites are included; Washoku, Flame, and Mo-odhu sit on supplement or à la carte regardless of tier. AI covers house pours and the cocktail list at Veli.

Your Days on the Island

Vaavu is the underexplored atoll — only a handful of resorts share the chain — and the dive sites are why repeat divers come back. The Alimatha nurse-shark night dive sits on every Maldives bucket list, and Fotteyo Kandu — regularly named one of the country's best channel dives — is within 25 minutes of the jetty. Aqua Quest runs the on-island PADI operation. Above water: Thari Spa by Mandara, Han'dhu fitness, and the Kulhun kids' club.

House Reef & Underwater

Kunaavashi sits in the channel system Vaavu is famous for — Kunaavashi Kandu runs on the southern edge of the island and feeds into Fotteyo Kandu nearby. The house reef is shallow and shore-accessible from the duplex water villas (step off the deck) and designated beach entries. Coral regeneration is among the better in the country; the atoll took the 2016 bleaching lighter than the central atolls. Marine life is the genuine pull: nurse sharks at Alimatha jetty, reef sharks daily on the house reef, hawksbill and green turtles, and grey-reef-shark schools at Fotteyo. Whale sharks are excursion-only.

Transfer from Malé

Approximately 67 km south of Velana International Airport. The default is a 75-minute shared speedboat (arrivals before 20:00); a 25-minute seaplane is daylight-only (arrivals before 15:30). Speedboat is cheaper and more flexible; seaplane is faster but adds the daylight constraint.

NOOE Kunaavashi's pitch is genuine: a year-two lifestyle property in the underexplored Vaavu Atoll, with the duplex water-villa format and the Alimatha nurse-shark night dive doing the heavy lifting. The duplex is one of the strongest two-storey overwater-pool formats outside the ultra-luxury tier. The trade-offs are honest: the AI is functional, three of five venues carry supplements, and the service team has the year-two wobble.
