Your Days on the Island

The free list is unusually long for the Maldives: kayaks, SUP boards, pedaloes, snorkel gear and even a scuba try-out in the pool are all bundled into All Inclusive 24, alongside daily RiuFit group fitness and a seven-nights-a-week entertainment programme. A PADI dive school and excursion desk cover the rest.

Family-Friendly Features

Days settle into an easy loop: RiuLand mornings (two groups, ages 4–7 and 8–12, six days a week), the children's pool and playground after lunch, then pedaloes or a kayak while the lagoon stays glass-calm. The mini-disco runs before the main show each evening, and because everything from ice cream to snorkel gear is inside All Inclusive 24, nobody is doing holiday arithmetic.

House Reef & Underwater

Maafushi is a flat lagoon island ringed by sandbank beach rather than a drop-off reef — swimming is effortless everywhere, and the payoff for snorkellers is the lagoon itself: stingrays, juvenile blacktip reef sharks and turtles patrol the shallows around the overwater jetty and the 800-metre walkway to Riu Palace. Coral growth is young and patchy close in, so the excursion desk's boat trips to outer Dhaalu Atoll reefs are worth taking for fish density. The snorkelling zone off the jetty is even listed on TripAdvisor as an attraction in its own right. Divers get more: the PADI school runs dhoni trips to Dhaalu's channels and thilas.

Transfer from Malé

A 45-minute domestic flight from Velana International Airport to Kudahuvadhoo Airport, followed by a 15-minute speedboat to Maafushi Island. Return cost is USD 395 per adult and USD 352 per child (2–11) including both legs and taxes. A seaplane routing is also offered at USD 776 per adult return, and RIU runs seasonal free-domestic-transfer promotions on stays of 4 nights or more.

Who This Resort is For

Riu Atoll does something the Maldives barely offered before 2019: a true mass-market all-inclusive where the meter genuinely stops. The AI 24 programme is the most complete in its price band — international spirits, midnight snacks, free non-motorised water sports, even a pool scuba try-out — and the twin-island setup adds a 5-star neighbour a stroll away. It is loud, organised fun on a lagoon island rather than intimate luxury, and judged as exactly that, it delivers real value.
