Hanifaru Bay is the headline — one of the world's best manta ray sites, accessible by boat. On-island, the treetop spa and Euro-Divers PADI centre keep non-excursion days full.

Family-Friendly Features

The kids club at Alila runs daily programs for ages 4–12, and two-bedroom beach villas give families their own space on this intimate 80-villa island. Note that overwater villas require guests to be 12+. The house reef is one of the best in the Maldives, with a dramatic drop-off and regular manta ray sightings — ideal for older children ready to snorkel.

The house reef is solid rather than spectacular — accessible from the beach with coral in good health and regular turtle and shark sightings. What elevates Alila's marine score is location: Hanifaru Bay, the world's largest manta ray aggregation site, is a short boat ride away, and nearby cleaning stations even closer.

Transfer from Malé

Raa Atoll is too far for speedboat — seaplane is the standard transfer and most guests' first choice. A domestic flight alternative via Ifuru Airport works for late arrivals when seaplanes can't operate after dark.

Who This Resort is For

Alila Kothaifaru is a rare combination: genuine luxury with Hyatt points redemption, every villa with its own pool, and proximity to the world's best manta ray encounters. It's newer and less established than Baa Atoll neighbours, but the treetop spa, sandbank restaurant, and understated design give it a distinct identity. Hyatt loyalists have no better Maldives option.
