Two simple categories housed in 78 garden bungalows — Equator Village is built on the footprint of the old RAF Sergeants' Mess and refurbished as a boutique. There are no overwater villas and no private pools. The Standard Room sleeps two adults plus a child; the Family Room interconnects two units for up to six. This is the trade-off for the deep-south value.

One restaurant and one bar — a tight footprint by Maldives standards, but enough to anchor an all-inclusive plan with a strong Addu identity. Vaivaru handles every meal with fusion buffets that pull from Maldivian, Asian and European traditions, while the white-wicker Veragan Bar pours from morning until midnight. Beach BBQ and private beachside dinners are bookable extras that cycle weekly.

Your Days on the Island

Diving is the spine — Addu sits 480 km south of the rest of the country and runs a different reef ecosystem to North Malé, with year-round mantas, schooling fish on outer-atoll channels, and the British Loyalty WWII wreck. Diverland's PADI 5-Star centre runs 35+ catalogued sites from the jetty. Outside the water, free bicycles unlock the only inter-island causeway in the Maldives and a chain of inhabited villages.

Family-Friendly Features

Equator Village runs a quieter family setup than the bigger resorts — there is no formal kids club, no babysitting service, and no organised teen programme, but the interconnecting Family Rooms (52 sqm, max six) and the kids' pool adjacent to the main pool cover the basics. The standout for families with curious older kids: free bicycles plus the only inter-island causeway in the Maldives means children can cycle between four inhabited villages, see the WWII airbase ruins, and visit local schools — an authentic Addu experience rather than a sealed-resort one.

House Reef & Underwater

Equator Village's beach reef has been damaged by past coral bleaching and the closeness of working harbours — closer-in snorkelling is mediocre at best. The strength is the wider Addu Atoll: outer-channel reefs, the sheltered atoll lagoon, and Mudakan's year-round manta cleaning station all sit within 30 minutes by dhoni from the jetty. Boat-snorkel trips run daily and are bundled into AI. The British Loyalty wreck adds a marine ecosystem few other reefs offer — batfish, snapper and resident morays. Visibility is 20–30+ metres; water 28–30°C year-round.

Transfer from Malé

Addu Atoll is 480 km south of Malé — far too far for seaplane or speedboat. The transfer is a 90-minute Maldivian Airlines domestic flight from Velana (MLE) to Gan (GAN), then a 5-minute van across the causeway to the resort. Round-trip costs approximately USD 465 per person including the airport shuttle.

Equator Village's pitch is honest: the cheapest gateway to the Maldives' deep south, on a former RAF base 480 km from anything else. Trade-offs are clear — bungalow rooms only, one restaurant, one bar, a beach reef that has seen better days. The wins are specific: the country's only year-round manta station 30 minutes off the jetty, the British Loyalty wreck on the same dive schedule, and the only atoll where you can cycle between inhabited villages.
