Komandoo is the antidote to mega-resorts. Just 65 villas on an island you can walk around in ten minutes, with no children, no jet skis, and no beach club DJs. What it does have is a genuinely excellent house reef, mature vegetation, and the kind of quiet that makes you forget there's a world beyond the lagoon.

Komandoo's house reef is one of its strongest selling points — a marine biologist documented 265 species without ever diving, and repeat guests have photographed 113 species in a single year. The reef wraps most of the island with easy shore entry and consistent marine life. Nearby Fushivaru is home to the largest known aggregation of juvenile manta rays in the Maldives.

Komandoo is in Lhaviyani Atoll — a straightforward 40-minute seaplane from Malé. It shares the atoll with Kuredu and Hurawalhi.

Komandoo does one thing brilliantly: it gives you a small, quiet island with an excellent reef and absolutely no pressure to do anything. It's not the newest, not the most luxurious, and not trying to be. For couples who want genuine Maldives escapism without the mega-resort circus, it's hard to beat.

Is Komandoo related to Kuredu and Hurawalhi?

Yes — all three are operated by Crown & Champa Resorts in Lhaviyani Atoll. Komandoo guests can visit Hurawalhi to dine at the 5.8 Undersea Restaurant (5.8 metres below sea level) and can access Kuredu for its golf course. Each resort has a distinct personality despite sharing an atoll.
