Opened 2021

The Maldives' sharpest Marriott Bonvoy redemption — a 141-villa five-star in Lhaviyani Atoll, opened 2021 and priced at Bonvoy Category 5. Works equally well for couples and families (Kids Hub ages 4–12). If you're banking Bonvoy points or want chain-backed reliability without the premium of an independent boutique, this is your resort.

Dining

5 Restaurants & 1 Bar

Dining draws on the resort's own 430 sqm greenhouse, giving kitchens a farm-to-table edge rare in the Maldives. Turquoise anchors the day with themed buffets, Tabemasu delivers teppanyaki theatre, Velaa serves wood-fired pizzas poolside, and Riviera Tapas & Bar adds Spanish small plates and paella at the adults-only pool. Waves Café handles health-conscious daytime fare, and La Vie runs as the adults-only sunset cocktail bar.

Experiences & Activities

Your Days on the Island

Le Méridien's 2021 build gives it newer activity infrastructure than most Bonvoy properties in the Maldives — the 2025 padel courts are among the first in Lhaviyani, Sub Oceanic's PADI team runs one of the atoll's strongest dive programmes, and the on-island greenhouse doubles as a visitable edible garden rather than just a kitchen sourcing story.

Ornate eagle rays · green turtles daily · blacktip reef sharks · healthy coral · nurse sharks at night

Le Méridien's house reef is a genuine highlight — ornate eagle rays cruising through seagrass beds, green turtles on virtually every snorkel, and blacktip reef sharks patrolling the drop-off. The reef wraps around much of the island with easy shore entry from both the beach and overwater villa steps. Coral health is strong for a resort opened in 2021, benefiting from Lhaviyani's nutrient-rich channels. Sub Oceanic's marine biologist leads weekly reef ecology talks and coordinates a coral restoration programme. Night snorkeling reveals nurse sharks and bioluminescent plankton.

Getting There

Transfer from Malé

Le Méridien is in Lhaviyani Atoll, about 130 km north of Malé. The only transfer option is a scenic 35-minute seaplane flight operated by Trans Maldivian Airways. Seaplanes operate daylight hours only — arrivals after approximately 3:30 pm require an airport overnight or domestic flight arrangement. We handle all transfer logistics.

Our Take

Who This Resort is For

Le Méridien delivers polished Marriott five-star with genuinely Maldivian character. The 8.8-rated house reef is the headline — daily eagle ray and turtle sightings justify the trip alone. The 430 sqm greenhouse feeding the restaurants is a rare touch, and the overwater Explore Spa with glass floors adds a memorable wellness dimension. Bonvoy members get strong value at Category 5. Not the cheapest seaplane resort, but the reef quality justifies the premium.

Ideal for

  • Marriott Bonvoy members — Category 5 property earning and redeeming points, with elite benefits including upgrades and late checkout
  • Reef enthusiasts — an 8.8-rated house reef with ornate eagle rays, daily turtle sightings, and blacktip sharks on the drop-off
  • Families with children — Kids Hub for ages 4-12, under-6 stay free, beach villas with garden privacy
  • Couples seeking mid-luxury — overwater pool villas, adults-only La Vie bar, Explore Spa with glass floors
  • Sustainability-conscious travellers — Green Globe certified, 430 sqm on-island greenhouse, coral restoration programme

Consider elsewhere if

  • Ultra-luxury seekers — Le Méridien is premium five-star but not in the Soneva/One&Only tier; service is Marriott-efficient rather than bespoke
  • Adults-only romance — families are welcome and present; the Kids Hub and shallow lagoon attract young children
  • Budget travellers — seaplane transfers alone cost ~$515 pp RT before accommodation; meal plan supplements add $130-250 pp/day
  • Late-arrival travellers — seaplane-only access means no same-day arrival for flights landing after ~3:30 pm
