Tips for the journey

  • Take the red-eye if your resort is a seaplane ride away: Emirates' early departures land at about 07:35 and 09:25, and flydubai, Etihad and Air Arabia have early-hours departures landing between about 07:15 and 08:10.
  • Watch the afternoon arrivals. Seaplanes fly in daylight only, and some resorts set their arrival cut-off at 15:00: Emirates' mid-morning departure lands at about 14:55, right on it, and its 10:15 (most days from late October) and flydubai's mid-morning flight land after it. On those, choose a speedboat resort or plan a night near the airport.
  • For the trip home, the late-night returns (Emirates at 23:00, flydubai at around 23:30) give you a full last day at the resort; morning returns can sit before the first seaplane departures.
  • Airspace in the region was disrupted in 2026, so check current airline and government advice before you fly. One-stop routings via Doha, Bahrain, India or Colombo sometimes look cheaper but make little sense for a short break.

Every international flight lands at Velana International Airport in Malé. From there it is a speedboat, a seaplane or a domestic flight to your resort — and seaplanes fly in daylight only, so a late arrival can mean a night near the airport. How transfers work →
