The resort calls REEF "the heart of our culinary offering", and structurally it is: breakfast, lunch and dinner all run through this open-sided pavilion looking out over the sand. It is also the venue every board basis is built around, so it is where most guests eat most nights.

The island steakhouse, and the one venue that runs to a schedule rather than a service — dinner only, two nights a week. Grilled meat and seafood is the whole brief. Half the appeal is the scarcity: it is the night people plan the rest of the week around.

"From the oven to the poolside" is the resort's own line for it, and that is exactly the job — pizza from the oven for anyone who has not moved off a sunbed, plus an à la carte menu that carries through the afternoon and into the evening.

Four board bases, from bed and breakfast up to all-inclusive. REEF is the venue every one of them is built around; SURF and Pizza Kaage sit outside that coverage and run on a per-day dining credit instead. Worth understanding before you price the upgrade.

Your Days on the Island

Diving is the headline and the resort has the trophy to match — Best Dive Resort at the 2025 TTM Awards. Aquafanatics, the PADI 5-Star centre run by Silver Sands, works a house reef you can walk into and the channels of Huvadhoo beyond it. Above water the island keeps it simple: one pool, one court, a spa in the middle.

Family-Friendly Features

The beach villas take three adults and a child, so a family of four fits without a two-bedroom upgrade. Days run between the shallow lagoon and the kids' club — painting, weaving and Maldivian stories — and the good bit is the Reef Ranger programme, where the marine biologists take children out onto the reef and let them fix a coral fragment to a nursery rope they can check on from home. The resort publishes no club name, ages or hours, so ask us before you count on it for a toddler.

House Reef & Underwater

The reef is why this island won Best Dive Resort at the 2025 TTM Awards. It encircles Havodda, so snorkelling starts at the waterline rather than at a jetty — the resort points beginners straight at it and the dive centre lists direct house-reef access as a headline. Past the drop-off, Huvadhoo is the world's second-largest atoll, and its channels and thilas are what the boats go out for: reef sharks, turtles, and manta rays in season. Aquafanatics gives certified divers Nitrox 32% at no charge, which is unusual enough in the Maldives to be worth the flight on its own.

Transfer from Malé

Havodda sits roughly 400 km south of Malé in Gaafu Dhaalu. You fly Maldivian from Velana International to Kaadedhdhoo — the resort books the seat — then step onto a speedboat timed to the flight's arrival. The boat leg is the resort's; the flight is the cost.

Havodda is a dive island with a five-star hotel on it, and that ordering matters. The 2025 Best Dive Resort title is earned by a reef that circles the whole island and a centre that hands certified divers free Nitrox — two things you feel every single day. What it is not is a culinary destination: three restaurants and two bars, one of them open twice a week. Minor's 2023 relaunch put an NH Collection badge on an island that already worked, and left the good part alone. The long way down is the price of the quiet water at the end of it.
