Fares and when to book

On Google Flights in September 2026, return economy from London usually started around £550–£800 on a one-stop fare, while BA's nonstop typically ran £600 to £1,700 depending on dates. Business class started at about £2,400. The Maldives' departure tax (US$50 in economy, US$120 in business) and UK Air Passenger Duty (£102 in economy and £244 in premium cabins for Malé from April 2026) are already inside those fares. Christmas and New Year is the priciest window for the trip as a whole, and July is the dearest month to fly from every UK airport we checked. Fares are volatile, so treat these as a guide, not a quote.

Tips for the journey

  • Both nonstops land in the morning (about 09:30 and 11:25). Seaplanes fly in daylight only, so for a same-day seaplane transfer you need to be on the ground by about 15:30; check your resort's own cut-off.
  • A cheaper connection that lands mid-afternoon can mean a night near the airport if your resort is a seaplane ride away. Price that in before you choose the fare.
  • Thinking about Sri Lanka as well? SriLankan flies Heathrow–Colombo nonstop daily, and from 23 October 2026 BA flies Gatwick–Colombo nonstop three times a week through the winter. Colombo to Malé is a short hop.
  • Most one-stop fares connect in the Gulf. Given the regional disruption of 2026, check current airline and government advice for your routing before you book.

Every international flight lands at Velana International Airport in Malé. From there it is a speedboat, a seaplane or a domestic flight to your resort — and seaplanes fly in daylight only, so a late arrival can mean a night near the airport. How transfers work →
