Kaani is the island's main room, a thatched beachside hall of buffets and live stations. Kuredhi Pool Bar works the main pool from lunch into the evening. Mediterranean

A pavilion on stilts at the heart of the InOcean villa jetty, with a wide deck over the reef. Mediterranean plates à la carte at lunch and dinner, a buffet breakfast and a bar of its own. Reserved for InOcean guests; island-villa guests join on All-Inclusive Premium or pay a supplement on Full Board and AI Dine.

Five plans on paper, three on the booking engine: Half Board is the base rate, with Full Board and All-Inclusive Dine above it; Premium and Bed & Breakfast are quoted on request. Where you sleep matters as much as the plan — Azzurro is reserved for InOcean guests, and Premium is the tier built around the Funa and Azzurro dine-around.

Your Days on the Island

A PADI 5-Star Gold dive centre with more than thirty sites across South Nilandhe, a Marine Lab that tracks the atoll's turtles and replants coral in the lagoon, and a whale-shark day trip to south Ari about an hour away. Ashore there is a futsal pitch, a lovebird sanctuary, Boduberu on Fridays and a kids club with its own weekly quest. Prices below are the resort's own, before service charge and GST.

Family-Friendly Features

Days start at the Terra Kids Club, where the Ranger's Club runs a weekly quest of crafts, nature walks, pizza making and treasure hunts for ages four to eleven. Twice a day the lovebird sanctuary opens for feeding, the shallow lagoon is made for paddling, and eight- and nine-year-olds can try a Bubblemaker dive. Babysitting is $30 an hour per child.

House Reef & Underwater

Velavaru sits on a wide, shallow lagoon, which is lovely for paddling children and less so for snorkellers: the water in front of the beach villas is lagoon, not coral. The reef proper is out where the InOcean villas stand, a kilometre offshore, with platforms built off the jetty to climb straight in. Island guests take a short boat there. The dive centre reaches more than thirty South Nilandhe sites, and the Marine Lab runs coral replanting in the lagoon's coral garden.

Transfer from Malé

Velavaru is about 144 km south of Malé: a 40-minute shared seaplane from Velana, then a five-minute speedboat to the jetty. The resort books the return seaplane for every guest and charges it separately from the room, at USD 580 per adult and USD 365 per child aged 2–11. Seaplanes fly in daylight only.

Angsana Velavaru is two holidays sold as one: a relaxed palm island for families and a row of overwater villas a kilometre out for couples, joined by an hourly ferry. Banyan Group owns and runs it under its Angsana brand; it is not an Accor hotel, but it is bookable on Accor's site and earns ALL points through the Banyan–Accor partnership. Choose an InOcean villa if the reef matters — from the beach it is a boat ride — and budget the seaplane on top of whatever plan you pick.
