Opened 2009

A Leading Hotels of the World member shaped like a Maldivian dhoni, Constance Halaveli pairs polished French-Mauritian service with 57 overwater villas — every one with its own plunge pool — strung along one of the country's longest jetties. A 22,500-bottle cellar and an overwater spa anchor it. The house reef is the honest weak point; divers should plan boat trips.

Dining

4 Restaurants & 2 Bars

Four restaurants and two bars built around the signature: a 22,500-bottle wine cellar holding more than 1,600 references, split between the buffet at Jahaz and the overwater Jing. Dining runs from sandy-floor international buffet to stilted Asian fusion, a barefoot beach grill, and a specialty sushi bar.

Jahaz restaurant
Jahaz
International
The main all-day buffet with live cooking stations and themed nights, set on the sand. Houses the Jahaz Wine Cellar — one half of the resort's 22,500-bottle collection — so a sommelier is never far from the table.

Our tipAsk the sommelier for a Jahaz cellar tour before dinner
Jing restaurant
Jing
Asian Fusion
The signature à la carte restaurant, stilted over the lagoon for the resort's most romantic setting. Pan-Asian and fusion plates, and home to the second Jing Wine Cellar — the place to open something rare from the 1,600-strong list.

Dining Inclusions

All-Inclusive covers the Jahaz buffet plus one à la carte course at either Jing or Meeru, premium spirits and wines by the glass, a daily-stocked minibar, and two excursions per stay. It excludes the Kaika sushi bar, lobster, and the spa — the cellar's rarest pours sit outside it too.

Your Days on the Island

North Ari is one of the Maldives' great dive theatres — Maaya Thila sits within reach — and the PADI 5-Star TGI Dive Centre runs the water. On land, a tennis court, beach volleyball, a 24-hour gym, and the main pool keep the days full, while wine tastings in the cellar are the resort's signature indoor pursuit.

House Reef & Underwater

Good House Reef
Lux Atolls Reef Score · bottom 40% house reef · world-class atoll dives

Awkward shore entry over rocky breakwaters · best marine life on boat trips

Turtles, blacktips & rays present · Maaya Thila & whale sharks within boat range

Be honest about the house reef: it is the property's weak point. Marine life is present — green turtles, blacktip reef sharks, rays and anemonefish all turn up — but the coral is mediocre and entry is awkward over rocky breakwaters, so shore snorkelling is okay at best. The real marine life is on the boat excursions. That is where North Ari earns its reputation: the PADI 5-Star TGI Dive Centre runs trips to world-class sites like Maaya Thila, and whale sharks are a year-round excursion at South Ari. Pick this resort for the villas and the diving programme, not for stepping off your deck into great coral.

Our Take

Who This Resort is For

Constance Halaveli is the wine-and-water-villa estate: 57 plunge-pool overwater villas on one of the Maldives' longest jetties, two cellars holding 22,500 bottles, an overwater Sisley spa, and classic French-Mauritian polish its barefoot sister Moofushi deliberately avoids. The trade-offs are honest — the house reef is weak with awkward rocky entry, and outer water villas are a 10–15 minute walk (buggies provided). Come for the villas, the cellar and the North Ari diving; if a great step-off reef is the priority, look elsewhere in the atoll.

Ideal for

  • Wine lovers — a 22,500-bottle, 1,600-reference cellar split across two restaurants with sommelier-led tastings is genuinely rare in the Maldives
  • Honeymooners and couples who want polished overwater villas — all 57 Water Villas have private plunge pools over the lagoon, with classic French-Mauritian service rather than barefoot informality
  • Divers willing to boat out — North Ari's Maaya Thila and year-round South Ari whale sharks are world-class, run by the PADI 5-Star TGI Dive Centre
  • Families wanting space — 350–700 sqm beach villas, a dedicated kids' room option, and the Coconut Tribe club

Consider elsewhere if

  • Snorkellers who want a great step-off house reef — the coral is mediocre and entry is awkward over rocky breakwaters
  • Travellers wanting a short transfer — it's a 25-minute seaplane (daylight only) or a 90-minute speedboat
  • Design minimalists — the look is classic, polished and French-Mauritian, not pared-back contemporary

Frequently Asked Questions

Constance Halaveli — FAQ

Is Constance Halaveli all-inclusive?
It's optional. You can book bed-and-breakfast, half board (+$90 pp/day), full board (+$140), or all-inclusive (+$190). The AI covers the Jahaz buffet, one course at Jing or Meeru, premium drinks, daily minibar, and two excursions per stay. The Kaika sushi bar, lobster, and spa are excluded.
How long is the transfer to Constance Halaveli?
The primary route is a 25-minute scenic seaplane from Velana International Airport, around USD 520 per person return. Seaplanes fly in daylight only, so for late arrivals after 15:30 the resort's Funa speedboat makes the trip in about 90 minutes instead.
Does Constance Halaveli have a good house reef?
Honestly, no — the house reef is the resort's weak point. Marine life like turtles, blacktip sharks and rays is present, but the coral is mediocre and entry is awkward over rocky breakwaters. The best snorkelling and diving is on boat trips, run by the PADI 5-Star TGI Dive Centre.
Is Constance Halaveli good for families?
Yes, though it suits confident swimmers over toddlers. The Coconut Tribe kids club takes ages 4–11 with Fredi the manta ray, babysitting is on request, and family beach villas run 350 sqm with a separate kids' room. The big island and long jetty mean more walking with very young children.
How big is the wine cellar at Constance Halaveli?
The cellar holds around 22,500 bottles with more than 1,600 references — one of the largest in the Maldives. It's split between two cellars, at the Jahaz buffet and the overwater Jing restaurant, and you can book a sommelier-led tasting as a signature experience.
