At the very tip of the two overwater walkways, with open sea on three sides. It serves breakfast to Over Water guests, works as a quiet lounge through the afternoon and becomes the island's most atmospheric dinner setting once the sun goes down.

Your Days on the Island

Diving leads: the Nakai Diving Center is a PADI 5 Star Dive Resort with Nitrox, running boats every morning and afternoon to Vaavu's channels. Ashore the programme is small-island simple — beach volleyball, bocce, table tennis, a sea-view gym — plus NAKAI's own science-led evenings: astronomer-guided stargazing and the Pandora Project's ultraviolet flora walk.

House Reef & Underwater

Dhiggiri's reef sits close to the beach, and the resort is candid about its state: a colourful reef that has shown signs of recovery in recent years, with plenty of snorkelling spots nearby. Expect easy access and lively fish rather than pristine hard coral. The real draw lies a short boat ride away in Vaavu's channels — Miyaru Kandu's overhang gathers sharks and pelagics, Rakeedhoo adds eagle rays among soft coral and gorgonians, and nurse sharks crowd the night dive at neighbouring Alimatha.

Transfer from Malé

Dhiggiri sits about 60 km south of Velana International Airport in Vaavu Atoll. The resort lists two ways in: a seaplane of around 20 minutes or a speedboat of around 90 minutes. It does not publish transfer fares, so we price the transfer with your stay.

Dhiggiri is a dive island first and a beach resort second, and it is candid about both. The island is small, the room count modest and the board simple, which suits couples and divers who would rather spend on the boat than on a butler. The house reef is recovering rather than a showpiece, but Vaavu's channels rank among the country's best and they start 25 minutes away. Pick it for value, calm and serious diving; look elsewhere for private pools or a kids club.
