All-Inclusive Resorts in the Maldives
Planning an all inclusive Maldives vacation? We compare every resort with real prices, detailed package inclusions, and honest cost analysis so you know exactly what you're paying for before you book.
What All-Inclusive Actually Means in the Maldives
All-inclusive in the Maldives is not the same as all-inclusive in Cancun or the Caribbean. There is no single standard. Every resort defines its own plan differently, and the gap between the cheapest AI and the most premium is enormous. Understanding what you are actually getting is the single most important step before booking.
What AI typically includes: all meals (buffet and often specialty restaurants), house beverages (beer, wine, basic spirits, soft drinks, tea, coffee), and sometimes minibar replenishment. Better plans add selected activities, non-motorised water sports, and one or two excursions.
What AI typically excludes: premium spirits and champagne (unless premium AI), motorised water sports (jet ski, parasailing), spa treatments, diving courses, private excursions, and seaplane or speedboat transfers. Some resorts charge supplements at their best specialty restaurants even on AI.
The tax factor: Maldives resorts add 10% service charge plus 12% GST to all bills, totalling 23.2% on top of quoted prices. On AI plans, this tax is typically included in the published rate. On non-AI stays, every drink and meal you sign for attracts this markup. A $20 cocktail actually costs $24.64. Over a week, a couple spending $200/day on extras would pay an additional $325 in taxes alone. All-inclusive eliminates this entirely.

All-Inclusive vs Half Board vs Full Board
Most Maldives resorts offer two or three meal plan tiers. Here is what each typically includes and what it costs in real terms.
| Feature | Half Board | Full Board | All-Inclusive |
|---|---|---|---|
| Breakfast | Included | Included | Included |
| Lunch | Extra | Included | Included |
| Dinner | Included | Included | Included |
| Specialty restaurants | Extra | 1 visit typical | Usually included |
| House spirits & wine | Extra | Extra | Included |
| Premium spirits | Extra | Extra | Premium AI only |
| Soft drinks & water | Extra | Varies | Included |
| Minibar | Extra | Extra | Often daily refill |
| Non-motorised sports | Varies | Varies | Usually included |
| Excursions | Extra | Extra | Premium AI only |
| Typical upgrade cost | Base rate | +$60-100 pp / day | +$120-250 pp / day |
When AI is worth it: If you drink moderately (3+ drinks per day), want to try specialty restaurants without worrying about the bill, or simply prefer the peace of mind of knowing your total cost upfront. A couple having 3 cocktails per day at $18 each would spend $378 on drinks alone over 7 nights. Add wine with dinner and a beer at lunch, and you are easily at $700-1,000 per week in beverage charges. All-inclusive eliminates this plus the 23.2% tax markup.
When AI is not worth it: If you rarely drink alcohol, prefer to eat light lunches (skipping a full meal), or are staying at an ultra-luxury resort where the all-inclusive excludes the best restaurants. Some couples at dry or light-drinking trips find half board plus a few signed meals works out cheaper.

Is All-Inclusive Worth It? The Real Math
Let's do the actual arithmetic. Maldives resort drink prices are high, and the 23.2% tax on every signed bill adds up faster than most travellers expect. Here is what a typical couple spends without all-inclusive, based on real resort menus.
A couple having 2 cocktails each at sunset: $60-100 per day. Over 7 nights: $420-700. Add 23.2% tax: $517-862.
Two glasses each at dinner: $48-80 per night. Over 7 nights: $336-560. With tax: $414-690.
One beer each at lunch: $16-30 per day. Over 7 nights: $112-210. With tax: $138-259.
4 soft drinks or waters per day: $20-32 per day. Over 7 nights: $140-224. With tax: $172-276.
Half board skips lunch. Two people eating lunch: $80-160/day. Over 7 days: $560-1,120. With tax: $690-1,380.
A moderate-drinking couple on HB can easily spend $1,900-3,400 per week on extras. All-inclusive at $150-250 pp/day ($2,100-3,500 for 7 nights) often breaks even or saves money.
When all-inclusive is clearly worth it: couples who drink regularly (3+ drinks per day), families with teenagers who consume soft drinks and snacks all day, anyone who dislikes tracking a running tab on holiday, and travellers who want to try every restaurant without calculating the cost.
When it's not worth it: non-drinkers or very light drinkers, travellers who prefer to eat light, guests at ultra-luxury resorts where the AI plan excludes the best restaurants or experiences, and very short stays (1-2 nights) where the savings don't accumulate.
Booking Tips for All-Inclusive
How to find the best all-inclusive deals and get maximum value from your booking, based on what we see across hundreds of reservations.
December through March is high demand. The best all-inclusive resorts fill their premium villas months in advance. Early booking also locks in lower rates before seasonal surcharges kick in.
Before booking, ask the resort or your agent for the complete all-inclusive inclusions document. Pay attention to which restaurants are covered, whether supplements apply at specialty venues, and what level of spirits is included.
Seaplane transfers cost $500-600 per person return and are rarely included in AI plans. Siyam World is a notable exception with complimentary seaplane transfers. Budget for transfers separately unless explicitly stated.
April-May and October-November offer 30-50% lower rates than peak season with similar weather patterns. You get the same all-inclusive inclusions at a significantly lower nightly rate. Many resorts add bonus perks in shoulder season.
If the AI upgrade is $180 per person per day and you would only spend $100 on drinks, it is not worth it. But if you spend $250+ on drinks and lunch, the AI saves money plus eliminates the 23.2% tax on every signed bill.
Travel agents often negotiate all-inclusive rates that include extras not available when booking direct: spa credits, excursions, villa upgrades, or complimentary transfers. Our packages typically include more than booking with the resort directly.
