Thai, Indonesian, Malaysian, Sri Lankan, Middle Eastern and Indian plates in one kitchen — prawn satay, laksa, Jaffna-style lobster, tom yam and lamb kabsa. Set on the beach at the southeastern end of the island. Pre-booking a day ahead is required and a supplement applies.

Four tiers, from Bed & Breakfast up to All-Inclusive. Lime is the outlet every plan runs through; Manta, Sunset Grill and the Wine Cellar sit outside the plans and carry a supplement on all four.

Supplement figures are the gaps between board bases on the resort’s own booking engine, per adult per night, before service charge and GST.

Your Days on the Island

Ocean Dimensions runs the PADI 5-Star centre and puts enriched air on every dive at no supplement — unusual anywhere in the Maldives. Kottefaru Thila, the manta and shark site that carries the island’s name, is minutes out. On land the draw is Eternity Spa, an eighteen-room village set inland among the planting rather than perched on a jetty.

Family-Friendly Features

The whole island is ringed by sand, so small children can be walked anywhere without crossing a road or a jetty. The kids’ club takes 3 to 12s, with an outdoor play area and the guest recreation centre next door, and there is a wading pool beside the main one. Three two-bedroom categories sleep six, and babysitting can be arranged for a fee.

House Reef & Underwater

Kottefaru is ringed by beach on every side, and the reef sits close enough to walk to — the bay beside the water villas, near Manta, is where guests reliably find black-tip reef sharks, and mantas have been seen passing under the villas. The atoll’s thilas are the real draw and they are minutes out by dhoni, Kottefaru Thila first among them. Be honest about the season: through the monsoon months visibility drops and currents can be strong enough for the dive centre to call off a trip.

Transfer from Malé

Kottefaru sits about 157 km northwest of Malé, and the standard arrival is a 40-minute seaplane from Velana International. Guests who prefer a fixed schedule can fly domestic to Ifuru instead and finish the trip by speedboat.

Brennia Kottefaru is the Raa island that does the fundamentals properly and does not charge marquee money for them. You get a full ring of beach, a genuine walk-in reef, an eighteen-room spa village and a dive operation that quietly hands you free Nitrox — for entry rates that sit below most of the atoll. The dining is the honest limit: one buffet doing the heavy lifting, with the two à la carte rooms priced as extras. If you plan your days around the water and the spa rather than the menu, the value here is hard to argue with.
