Getting There

Transfer from Malé

Shaviyani is in the northern Maldives — a 55-minute seaplane from Velana via Trans Maldivian Airways. For late arrivals after the seaplane curfew, the route runs through Hanimaadhoo Airport on a domestic flight plus a 50-minute speedboat.

Our Take

Who This Resort is For

Sirru Fen Fushi (ex-Fairmont Maldives) is the rare Maldives property whose superlatives are all measurable — longest infinity pool (200 m), longest house reef (9 km), largest lagoon (600 hectares), only Safari Tent Villas in the country. The Coralarium and Sustainability Lab feel substantive rather than greenwashed. The brand transition has been smooth — service quality under GM Gerhard Stutz is consistently called out as 'next level' in 2025-2026 reviews. The trade-off is the loss of Accor loyalty value and a slightly thinner dining lineup post-Bagatelle.

Ideal for

  • Snorkellers and divers — 9 km house reef with on-site manta cleaning station is the rarest reef combination in the country; you don't need a boat to swim with mantas
  • Families wanting space and water-features — 200-metre infinity pool, spiral kids' slide, Teen Club in shipping containers, Kids Fly Stay & Dine Free on 5+ night stays
  • Travellers wanting Maldives' largest lagoon — 600 hectares with the country's only Safari Tent Villas and a real sustainability-credential story (Lab + Coralarium)
  • Honeymooners who want a private island but also a serious house reef — the adult-only serenity pool and overwater Kata cover the romance side

Consider elsewhere if

  • Brand loyalty seekers — Accor ALL points stopped accruing on 1 May 2024 when the property left the Fairmont system. No replacement loyalty programme
  • Late-night arrivals — seaplane curfew at ~4:30 PM. Flights after that route via Hanimaadhoo + 50-minute speedboat (longer end-to-end)
  • Guests wanting peak fine-dining variety — Bagatelle closed with the rebrand, leaving the Azure/Kata alternating overwater pair as the two signature options

Frequently Asked Questions

Fairmont Maldives Sirru Fen Fushi — FAQ

Is Fairmont Maldives still operating?
The property exited the Fairmont/Accor system on 1 May 2024 and now operates independently as Sirru Fen Fushi, Private Lagoon Resort under Leading Hotels of the World. Same island, same villas, same restaurants (minus Bagatelle). Accor ALL points no longer accrue.
Does the Coralarium underwater sculpture still exist?
The semi-submerged structure remains and now functions as a coral regeneration project — after 5+ years underwater it's covered in live coral and home to 120+ fish species. The original human-form sculptures by Jason deCaires Taylor were removed by Maldivian authorities in September 2018 by court order; the cage is snorkel-accessible from shore.
How long is the seaplane transfer?
55 minutes direct from Velana via Trans Maldivian Airways (~$680 pp RT). Late arrivals after the ~4:30 PM seaplane cutoff route via a Maldivian Airlines domestic flight to Hanimaadhoo plus a 50-minute speedboat (~$520 pp RT).
Is the 200-metre infinity pool really the longest in the Maldives?
Yes — it spans the island shore-to-shore and is split into family and adults-only sections. The closest comparable property is Kuda Villingili in North Malé. The Sirru adult zone holds the country's largest jacuzzi.
Is the resort good for families with kids?
Yes — the Kids Club (ages 4–12) has a spiral slide, the Teen Club operates from shipping containers with pool tables and games, and the Kids Fly, Stay & Dine Free promotion covers up to two children under 12 on 5+ night stays through January 2027.
