Wake to breakfast floating in your own infinity pool, rally on floodlit courts nobody else can book, and dine by torchlight as Bodu Beru drummers play for your party alone.
For one family or one celebration of up to 18 guests who want the Maldives without a single stranger in sight. Three villas, a spa and a 35-metre infinity pool belong to your party alone, while the Waldorf Astoria's eleven restaurants and bars wait across the lagoon. The island is quoted only as a whole, on enquiry — this is buyout money, not a villa booking.
Three buildings and nine bedrooms, sold only together as one island. The Two-Bedroom Overwater Villa stands on its own jetty with an infinity pool; the Three-Bedroom Beach Villa hides two infinity pools and a jacuzzi among the palms; the Four-Bedroom Residence opens straight onto the beach from a jacuzzi deck. The resort publishes no villa sizes, so none are shown here.

Dining
8 Restaurants & 3 Bars
Nothing on the island runs as a restaurant: a private culinary team cooks to order in your villa, at Haali or on a torch-lit beach, with themed nights from Shanghai's Best to Grand Bazaar. A private Zuma dinner or a Burnt Ends-style evening with Dave Pynt can be requested. For a change of scene, the Waldorf Astoria's eleven venues are a three-minute boat ride across the lagoon.
Private Chef
Private Dining
The island has no restaurant of its own: a dedicated culinary team plans each day with you, from breakfast floated across your pool to dinner on a torch-lit beach after a sunset champagne cruise. Set evenings run Organic Gourmet, Shanghai's Best, Asian Market, Grand Bazaar and Japanese Fusion, with live Bodu Beru drumming.
SettingOn the island · Villa, Haali or beach
Our tipBrief the chefs before arrival so the first night is already planned.
Tasting Table
International
The Waldorf's beachside terrace is where the main island breakfasts, with a large morning spread and an international menu at dinner. For a private-island party it is the easy first crossing — a relaxed table to get to know the resort before booking its more theatrical rooms.
SettingMain island · Beachside terrace
Our tipCross for breakfast one morning to get your bearings on the main island.
Terra
Tasting Menu
Seven bamboo pods hang high in the main island's tree canopy, each holding a single party for a seven-course seasonal menu. It is the one table on the Waldorf's side of the lagoon that feels as private as your own island, which makes it the natural night to cross over.
SettingMain island · Bamboo pods in the canopy
Our tipReserve early — seven pods serve the whole resort.
Zuma Maldives
Japanese
The Maldives outpost of the global izakaya sits above the water on the main island, robata grill and sushi counter in full swing. Private-island guests can also ask Zuma's chefs to cook a private menu on the island itself — the rare case where the restaurant crosses the lagoon to you.
SettingMain island · Overwater
Our tipBook the counter one night, then ask Zuma to cook on your island.
Li Long
Chinese
A Shanghai-style residence overlooking the lagoon, built around Beijing duck roasted in what the resort calls the Maldives' first wood-fired oven. It makes a good counterpoint to the Shanghai's Best evening your own chefs can stage back on the island.
SettingMain island · Lagoon view
Our tipOrder the Beijing duck — it is the dish the oven was built for.
The Ledge
Australian BBQ
Michelin-starred chef Dave Pynt's poolside grill cooks Wagyu and seafood over wood fire in a custom-built oven, in the spirit of Australian barbecue. Island guests can go one step further and ask for Pynt himself to fly in from Singapore for a Burnt Ends-style dinner on the island.
SettingMain island · Poolside
Our tipEat here first, then decide whether the island dinner is worth asking for.
Glow
Mediterranean
Lighter Mediterranean plates built on seasonal, locally sourced produce, served among greenery on the main island. After a run of banquets it is the reset lunch, and an easy fit with a wellness programme planned by the island's spa concierge.
SettingMain island · Garden
Our tipPair it with a morning at the spa for a quieter day.
Nava
Beach Club
The main island's pool and beach club, with wood-fired pizzas, cocktails and beachside bites. For a party that has had a week of its own company, it is the place to find other people — three minutes from a shoreline that is otherwise entirely yours.
SettingMain island · Pool & beach club
Our tipGo for pizza and a swim when the party wants company.
The Rock
Wine Bar
Food and wine pairing menus served at a 200-year-old jarrah wood table inside a cave-inspired room built from Jordanian limestone. With a private party it can feel like an extension of the island — small, enclosed and entirely about the table.
SettingMain island · Limestone cave
Our tipBook the pairing menu for a milestone dinner away from the island.
Peacock Alley
Cocktails
The Waldorf Astoria's New York lounge, reimagined as an open-air bar beside the Indian Ocean, with specialty drinks, small bites and live music. It is the main island's social evening room and the natural first stop before a dinner at Terra or Zuma.
SettingMain island · Open-air lounge
Our tipStop for a drink here before a dinner booking on the main island.
Amber
Cocktails
A tranquil beachfront lounge made for sunset, with champagne poured as the light turns gold over the ocean. Your own island has sunsets too; Amber is where to watch one in company before heading back across the lagoon.
SettingMain island · Beachfront lounge
Our tipArrive before sundown — the sunset is the whole point here.
Meal Plans
Dining Inclusions
The resort publishes no board basis for the private island. Food and drink are arranged with the island's culinary team and quoted per stay, whether the party eats on the island or crosses to the main island's venues. Ask for the dining terms to be set out in writing with the quote.

Experiences & Activities
Your Days on the Island
Everything on the island is booked for your party alone: padel and tennis courts under lights with a coach on call, a fitness centre, an overwater spa sanctuary and an oceanfront yoga pavilion. The watersports list runs from Seabob and X-Jetpack to wake surfing, and the concierge plans the rest — dolphin safaris, whale-shark swims, night snorkels over the house reef. The Waldorf's main island, three minutes away, adds its kids club and boutiques.

7.2
Very Good House Reef
Lux Atolls Reef Score · top 40% of Maldives resorts
House reef off the island · lagoon inside rock groynes
The island sits in its own lagoon, ringed by rock groynes with the reef edge beyond, and the resort invites guests to snorkel its house reef — naming nurse sharks and passing dolphin pods among the encounters. Turtles appear on its dive list, while whale sharks are an excursion rather than a reef resident. The resort publishes no reef survey or entry points, so our 7.2 is a cautious estimate set below the main Waldorf island's reef; a glass-bottom boat trip or a night snorkel is the way to judge it for yourself.

Our Take
Who This Resort is For
Reviewed by Tym Lewtak, founder of LuxAtolls·Updated Oct 04, 2026
Ithaafushi Private Island is less a resort than a borrowed estate: three villas, nine bedrooms, five pools and its own spa, courts and cinema lounge, all closed to anyone outside the party. What makes it work is the neighbour — the Waldorf Astoria's eleven venues and its kids club sit three minutes across the lagoon, so a week alone never becomes a week without choice. The catch is that nothing is published: no rate card, no villa sizes, no board basis. Get every term in writing, and it earns the buyout.
Ideal for
Multi-generational families and friend groups of up to 18 — nine bedrooms across an overwater villa, a two-pool beach villa and a beach residence, with a children's pool and games pavilion on the island
Milestone celebrations and island weddings — proposals, parties and ceremonies are staged across the whole island, down to a torch-lit beach dinner with live Bodu Beru drums
Guests who want privacy without giving up great restaurants — Zuma, Terra's canopy pods and Dave Pynt's The Ledge are a three-minute boat ride away, and Zuma or Pynt can be asked to cook on the island
Wellness retreats for a group — a Spa Wellness Concierge builds multi-day programmes around an overwater spa sanctuary, an oceanfront yoga pavilion and a private fitness centre with trainers
Consider elsewhere if
Couples booking a single villa — the island is sold only as a whole, so two guests would be paying for nine bedrooms; the Waldorf Astoria's main-island villas are the realistic alternative
Travellers who need a published price — the resort quotes the island only on enquiry, with no rate card online, and yacht transfers are charged on top at about $1,235 per person
Guests who want the social buzz of a resort — beyond your own party there is no bar crowd and no kids club on the island; both live across the lagoon on the main island

Frequently Asked Questions
Ithaafushi Private Island — FAQ
How much does Ithaafushi Private Island cost per night?
The resort does not publish a rate: the island is sold only as an exclusive-use buyout, quoted on enquiry for your dates and party size. Expect a price for the whole island rather than per villa, and ask for dining, transfers and taxes to be itemised — the resort's shared yacht transfer alone is about $1,235 per person return.
How many guests can stay on Ithaafushi Private Island?
Up to 18. The island has three buildings with nine bedrooms between them: a Two-Bedroom Overwater Villa, a Three-Bedroom Beach Villa and a Four-Bedroom Residence. It is reserved for one party at a time, so every pool, both courts and the spa belong to your group for the stay.
How do you get to Ithaafushi Private Island from Malé airport?
By the resort's own yacht, about 40 minutes from Velana International Airport and running around the clock. The shared return transfer is $960 per adult plus 28.7% tax and service charge, about $1,235; a private yacht for up to eight guests is $3,600 plus tax each way. A seaplane can be arranged on request.
Can Ithaafushi Private Island guests eat at the Waldorf Astoria's restaurants?
Yes. The Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi main island, with eleven restaurants and bars including Zuma, Terra and The Ledge, is a three-minute boat ride away. There is no restaurant on the private island itself: a culinary team cooks to order, and a private Zuma dinner or a Burnt Ends-style evening with Dave Pynt can be requested.
Is Ithaafushi the largest private island in the Maldives?
That is how Waldorf Astoria bills it: 344,445 square feet, about 32,000 square metres, of beaches, gardens, pools and villas. Within it sit three villas, a spa and fitness centre, the Haali cinema lounge, and padel and tennis courts — space that goes a long way for a party of at most 18.
